14 November 2019 – Juvees de Alt

Dry but very cold when we met at Benichembla
For the first time this year more long trousers than shorts

We set off at a fast pace just to warm up
But slowed down as we reached the start of the 2000 steps
This is a very impressive zig zag morazabic trail down to the valley
It is very easy walking downhill on the well preserved track

And we had frequent stops to admire the views and take photographs
It took about an hour to reach the bottom

And then, of course, we had to climb up the other side
It is less steep than the descent, but has more rough sections
So we were all ready for our banana stop
And consider what a hard life it must have been to live in such an isolated place
We were now sheltered from the wind, and very comfortable walking
Some of the group were even down to shirtsleeves
We were still quite fresh when we reached the top
And impressed to find a table and chairs at the abandoned village

It was more exposed on the next stage of the walk, but still no rain

That arrived just as we sat down for our picnic lunch
The rain did not last long, but the biting cold wind did
Not many photos after lunch, we were all too busy trying to get to the bar as quickly as possible

Stats
Distance – 11 Km
Time Taken – 5 hours
Total Ascent – 542 metres
