6 May 2019 – Pinos to Bernia

An unusually large group of 20 for today’s walk
The forecast was overcast, but in fact it was sunny when we set off
The donkey’s were spoilt for choice as more than usual had brought apple or carrot to feed them

It was quite hot as we started our first climb
But the cloud appeared as we had our banana stop
Which was just as well as we had a steep climb up to The Refugio restaurant
We were concerned to find a house being built in the middle of the track
Fortunately the sun made an appearance for our picnic lunch at Bernia Font
Jan reluctantly distributed the English sweets which Barry and Linda gave her
The sun appeared again as we made our way downhill into the Pinos valley
This is the area I managed to get lost when I first led this walk
But all was ok with the aid of my satnav, even though I had lost my notes
It was a relief to reach the abandoned finca
Where we had a longer than usual water stop
Good to welcome Richard and Brenda for a short visit
Impressive views of a cloudy Bernia
Then a gentle downhill walk
To the dramatic and surprisingly dry gorge
Then the long, winding uphill trek back to the cars
Followed by the most enjoyable part of the walk – the bar!
