16 May 2019 – Pedreguer Castel D’Axia

Just ten of us for today’s walk
This included Adrian on his first walk with the group
Also Richard and Brenda who are on a short visit from the UK
This is one of our six hour walks, which is the longest of the four grades we do
Fortunately it was not as hot as it has been earlier in the week
I gave them the option of having lunch at the bottom of the castle hill
But was pleased that they all agreed to carry on and climb up to the castle
It was hard going, but well worth it to reach the top
It was particularly hard for Elaine, who celebrated her birthday the previous day
I think everyone was glad that they had continued to the top
Especially Richard and Brenda who have not done much walking here in Spain
It is very exposed at the top, but fortunately there was a cool breeze
There is plenty of space to walk around and admire the impressive views
Tom and Sue found the most comfortable seating area with the best views
Or just to find a peaceful spot on your own
Coming down is even more difficult than climbing up
The track is steep with a lot of small rocks requiring extra care
No accidents coming down and we were soon on the level return path
The heat increased after lunch and it was a long walk back to Pedreguer
But as someone said “no gain without pain”
Stats
Distance - 12 km
Time Taken – 6 hours
Total Ascent - 525 metres
Total Steps - 17500
