Eleven of us for today’s recce of new variation of an old
favourite walk
John suggested a new lunch stop at the castle, instead of
our usual picnic site
To make the banana and lunch timings work I wanted to do
the walk in reverse
We followed the usual route from Castells
through the camping site
When we reached the wide circular path we turned right
instead of left
All went well up to our new banana stop
n fact the easy track allowed us to appreciate
the different view
Just as we started to climb again the track turned to
this
It went on for three kilometres, but seemed a lot, lot
longer
We finally met up with the solitary workman who was
levelling the surface
It was much easier going to the castle
Four of us went to view the proposed new picnic site
The rest sat down, had their lunch and refused to climb
any further
They also enjoyed their own pretty impressive views
As we made our way back down to Castells we found that
the road had been blocked to prevent any traffic up to the castle
Not sure why it was not blocked at the opposite end,
which would have saved us a hard climb
I was pleased that I managed to navigate the reverse
track, though I relied on my satnav as the track looked completely different.
It also took an extra half hour, which is not bad
considering how difficult so much of the track was to walk on
Everyone felt it was quite a challenge, particularly Tom
and Sue who have just returned from a break in the UK
And all felt they had really earned the end of walk drink
even more than usual
