30 November 2019 – Walking Groups Christmas Meal

It was a little early for a Christmas meal, but we wanted to hold it before too many non-residents returned to the UK
As a result we had 33 at the meal, our largest group yet
We choose the Cooperativa in Parcent this year
It is easy for us to arrange, and we can walk home afterwards
But also it is a lovely venue, and very Spanish
It is also very good value for money and the food is excellent and generous portions

Plus the staff are very efficient and also very friendly
They arranged one long table so we could all sit together
We had the whole room to ourselves, apart from a small group of Spanish card players
They appeared not to notice the very loud group at the next table
But then again Spanish bars are always very loud, even when half empty
We had both Monday Ramblers and Thursday Explorers at the same meal
We were really pleased how well the two groups mixed, helped by a few members who walk on both days
It was good to see that everyone mixed well and made the newer members very welcome
Many thanks to Karina who sent me copies of the many excellent photos she took during the meal
It was a little embarrassing to be toasted by the group
And even more so when Barry insisted he collect the money, then arranged for the group to pay for our meal
It was a really nice gesture, very much appreciated by Jan and I
It was a great afternoon and proof that the two groups have become much more than just a collection of people who walk together each week
To finish off the meal Jan provided proper chocolates to go with the coffee
