14 October 2019 – Benimeli Aerials

Our second Monday Ramblers walk was more challenging than the first

There is quite a steep one hour climb right at the start of this walk
We were pleased that almost all of the group walked again this week, despite their concerns about the climb
We did lose one because of a misunderstanding about where to meet
Despite a weather forecast of cloud and 30% chance of rain we set off as planned
It was sunny and quite clear, though very humid, for the first wooded section
A few found this hard going, so we had more water stops than usual
It was dry and warm for our banana stop, which allowed everyone to recover
The exposed climb to the aerials was much less humid, and even a cool breeze
So everyone managed this part and arrived at the top without any problem
The sky darkened increased as we reached the aerials
So we pushed on to the end of the ridge and our picnic stop

The clouds darkened as we finished our lunch so we did not delay
Before we reached the aerials we could hear thunder in the distance

It soon started to rain and I found that some of the group did not have waterproofs
Fortunately the rain was not too heavy, and we had a break at the last water stop
Everyone was very British, and very stoic (even the non Brits)
It was quite a damp, but still cheerful, group who returned to Benimeli
Both bars in the village were closed, so we all went to Bar Tormos instead
An enjoyable walk, despite the weather, and everyone was very impressed with the views
Stats
Distance – 7 Km
Time Taken – 4.5 hours
Total Ascent – 410 metres
