There are two hills overlooking Rothbury, they are
Cragside and Simonside
We try to walk both each time we visit my son and his
family
It is a beautiful and ideal walking area, particularly
when we are lucky with the weather
Cragside is the smaller of the two and at 13km the
shorter walk
It is easy to forget just how green, peaceful and
beautiful England can be in the summer
Despite being a popular walking area, and a sunny
Saturday, we met with very few other walkers
But we did encounter lots and lots of sheep
The flag was already on the cairn. It looks Spanish, but in fact it is
Northumberland
This is our preferred lunch spot overlooking Rothbury and
Coquetdale
We love the variety of terrain on this walk. After a short climb through extensive woods
there is a long section of open gorse land with extensive views to the Cheviots
and the coast.
There are also interesting rock formations which make us
wish we knew more about the geology of the area.
This was our first “proper walk” of the visit and was also
my birthday walk. We walk it almost
every visit, and in all weathers, and are never disappointed.
