14 February 2019 – Carrascal Ridge

Thirteen of us for today’s walk
Three cancelled having booked to do the walk
This is the hardest walk we do, so that was not surprising
Early morning cloud on the ridge cleared before we met at the Parcent Piscina
We took three cars up to the Col de Rates so that we could finish the walk at the restaurant
The non drivers got quite chilled waiting at the Piscina car park
But we all soon warmed up as we started to climb right from the car park

It did not take long before outer garments were removed
It took two hours to reach our banana stop, an outcrop with great views
We had already climbed higher than on one of our average walks
But by far the worse section was still to come
It would take us another hour to reach the summit
But it was a great sense of achievement when we arrived

And our best yet picnic site
We had now completed the climb
And had a fantastic one mile long ridge walk to look forward to
The familiar look out building marked the end of the ridge and the start of the road
Everyone was very tired but really pleased to achieved this memorable walk
We had watched this hang glider throughout the walk, and he swooped down to wave to us as we started downhill to the restaurant
We enjoy all of our walks, but we all felt this one is really special
Stats
Distance –12 km
Time Taken – 5.5 hours
Total Ascent – 735 metres
Total Steps - 13000
